Detailed description is . Die Phänomenta Lüdenscheid war das erste Science Zentrum in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Besucher können hier durch eigenes Handeln grundlegende Phänomene mit ihren Sinnen erfassen und verstehen, weshalb die Einrichtung den Namen Phänomenta erhielt, wie ähnliche Einrichtungen in Deutschland. Die Lüdenscheider Phänomenta wurde 1996 von engagierten Lehrern nach dem Vorbild in Flensburg gegründet.Im Unterschied zu einem Technikmuseum, in dem vorwiegend Sammlungen zu besichtigen sind, sollen in der Phänomenta Physik und Technik erlebt und begriffen werden. Die Phänomenta grenzt direkt an die Innenstadt. Außerdem an das Bahnhofsgelände von Lüdenscheid, das sich zu einem Lern- und Studienort entwickelt hat. In Zukunft soll die Phänomenta über eine Fußgängerbrücke direkt an den Bahnhof angebunden werden.PlanungenIm Rahmen des Projektes „Denkfabrik“ der Regionale 2013 soll das Areal des Bahnhofs Lüdenscheid „in ein modernes Bildungs-, Forschungs- und Dienstleistungsquartier“ umgewandelt werden. Die an das Bahnhofsgelände angrenzende Phänomenta Lüdenscheid soll dazu auch erweitert und über eine Fußgängerbrücke an den Bahnhof angebunden werden. Auf dem Bahnhof wird dazu eine Parkpalette mit 400 Stellplätzen entstehen. Die Anbindung an die Innenstadt von Lüdenscheid soll durch eine verbesserte Fußwegeverbindung entstehen. Dazu kommen Überlegungen auch die Volkshochschule als Teil des Projektes „Denkfabrik“ mit auf dem Bahnhofsgelände anzusiedeln.
