The attacks against The United States of America that took place on September 11, 2001, forever changed the face of our Nation. The resulting loss of life and destruction was unlike anything the country had ever experienced, comparable only to the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. “9-11” would become an infamous term in American history and everyone can remember where they were and what they were doing on that fateful morning. American leaders resolved to identify and punish those who supported the terrorists that carried out the attacks. With the help of its allies, America launched the Global War on Terror, and called on its citizens to support and carry out the war effort. . . Strategic missions were implemented, plans were set into action, and our men and women of the Armed Forces executed those missions with resolve, valor and honor. Many Reserve and National Guard units were called to serve along side Active Duty units. Deployments could last up to twelve (12) months, but many service members opted for multiple deployments to assist in the War on Terror. Families were separated for extended periods of time and extensive social and financial pressures were placed on the soldiers and their loved ones left at home.. . This Nation owes an enormous debt of gratitude to those brave men and women who rose to the challenge and surpassed their patriotic duty by serving their country during this time of need. . . Patriot Park will actively honor all those who served and likewise memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, so that we as Americans can live in continued freedom and security.. . THE STORY . . Patriot Park will serve as a focal point to tell the story of those who fought the Global War on Terror and likewise the aftermath of “9-11”. The Park will be a haven to honor and recognize the sacrifices of those who served their country, either through military or non-military services during the wake of “9-11”. Service men and women can utilize the Park as a place to connect with fellow veterans and recount for others the challenges they faced during their time of service, as well as their transition upon returning home.. . THE DESIGN . . Patriot Park is aptly located within the boundary of the Flight 93 National Memorial, beneath the sky in which the first battle in the War on Terror was waged. Although not associated with the Memorial, Patriot Park will echo the sacrifice of those on Flight 93, while providing additional recognition of our service members who heeded the post-“9 -11” call to battle. . . Funding for the construction and operation of the facility will be through private donations and charitable contributions. The Park will offer something for all ages, and shall remain politically nonpartisan. Patriot Park will be a four-season facility where visitors can enjoy an interactive experience, while gaining a realistic perspective of the challenges and sacrifices faced by our soldiers who so valiantly fought the War on Terror..
