A Paróquia foi criada por Dom João Batista Costa em 08 de dezembro de 1976.
“Aos oito dias do mês de dezembro de 1976, depois de ouvir o nosso Conselho Presbiteral, houve-se por bem elevar a Missão Salesiana de Ariquemes à dignidade de paróquia desta Prelazia, sob o título de SÃO FRANCISCO DE ASSIS, e confiá-la à Comunidade dos Revmos.
Padres Salesianos na pessoa de nosso estimado Pe.
João Fagan, pertencente à Comunidade da Prelazia de Porto Velho, residente nesta cidade” .
Abrangia uma área muito grande numa época em que estavam surgindo os municípios no Território.
Por isso os seus limites se estendiam por uma grande área geográfica..

Dado o decreto, no dia 02 de outubro de 1977, contando com a presença do bispo coadjutor, Dom Antônio Sarto, toma posse o primeiro pároco, P.
José das Dores Gonçalves e como vigário, P.
Nelson Augusto Oliveira, padres da congregação dos Oblatos de Cristo Sacerdote (OCS)..

No dia 27 de março de 1983, a paróquia foi confiada aos padres da Sociedade do Apostolado Católico (Palotinos).

Eloi Roggia (SAC) foi o primeiro pároco e tomou posse no Domingo de Ramos daquele ano.
