Detailed description is . Das Olympia-Schwimmstadion Berlin war Austragungsort der Schwimmwettbewerbe der XI. Olympischen Sommerspiele 1936 in Berlin. In nördlicher Richtung, direkt neben dem Olympiastadion gelegen, ist es Bestandteil des Olympiageländes (früher Reichssportfeld).GeschichteDie 1935 errichtete Anlage besteht aus einem 50 Meter × 21 Meter großen Schwimmbecken, einem 20 Meter × 20 Meter großen Sprungbecken mit 10-m-Sprungturm, zwei Nichtschwimmerbecken und anschließender Liegewiese. Seitlich umgeben zwei hohe Tribünen mit 7.600 Plätzen (zu den Olympischen Spielen 1936 durch hölzerne Zusatztribünen auf insgesamt 18.500 Zuschauerplätze ergänzt) die beiden Hauptbecken. Unterhalb der Tribünen sind Umkleidekabinen, sanitäre Anlagen und technische Einrichtungen integriert. Die mit Frischwasser der Berliner Wasserbetriebe gespeisten Wasserbecken verfügen über eine eigene Filter- und Umwälzanlage und sind zudem beheizbar. Der Umstand, dass erstmals bei olympischen Wettkämpfen die Wassertemperatur bei mindestens 21 Grad Celsius gehalten werden konnte, fand seinerzeit weltweit Beachtung.Nach Kriegsende wurde die – von Kriegsschäden weitgehend verschonte (im Gegensatz zum restlichen Olympiagelände) – Anlage am 20. Juni 1945 wieder für die Bevölkerung geöffnet. Im Jahr 1978, anlässlich der Austragung der III. Schwimmweltmeisterschaften, wurde die Wettkampfstätte komplett modernisiert. Das seit seiner Erbauung äußerlich kaum veränderte Schwimmstadion wird zwischen Mai und September jeden Jahres von etwa 350.000 Badegästen zur Erholung, für den Vereins- und Schulsport sowie als Trainingsstätte genutzt.
