Detailed description is We are a mother/daughter team making new ceramics like the ones you had growing up! When I was growing up in the early 90's, my parents owned a ceramic shop where they would create these magnificent works of art as well as teach classes. I remember playing there after school and watching them create these wonderful pieces of art and always had a curiosity about them. Eventually the shop closed and the art faded into obscurity where it is hard to find anyone who still continues as a hobby, let alone a career out of making ceramics today.. . I'm grown now and my parents are recently both retired, so I insisted on them teaching me from start to finish how to make ceramics. My mother and I work together as a team long hours on making everything by hand 100%. It started as a fun hobby that has now grown because we have had so much interest from our friends and family that know not only they used to make ceramics, but that we decided to start making them again and have requests pouring in. Our process is the exact same as it was 20 years ago. . . The process starts by using a liquid clay known as "slip" that you pour into a mold to sit. When the time is just right you drain the slip and allow to cast overnight. You remove the item from the mold and have what's called "green ware". Once completely dry you smooth and sand the green ware and set inside a kiln. The kiln fires the pieces, they become what is now called "bisque" and they are now ready to paint. Depending on what type of paint or glazes we use they can be fired again and at least twice and can be fired as many as four times. Then TADA! All our items are ready for accessories which usually includes light kits and plastic lighting bulbs! All materials are proudly made here in the United States as are our ceramics!. . We get so much joy and pleasure making these items, especially the vintage Christmas trees. Every time someone sees them we always hear, "I had one when I was a kid!" Their faces always light up and it makes all the hard labor worth making every single item for. I have fond memories with my family, not only because they made the items themselves but I still have items all over my own home for every holiday and I cherish my own childhood memories every time I see them. Even though this an art form that has almost completely vanished, we want to keep that kind of nostalgia alive.
