Detailed description is Trumpet Education at Northern Kentucky University The trumpet studio at NKU is a comprehensive trumpet program that features applied trumpet in both classical and jazz styles, an active trumpet ensemble, and performance opportunities in multiple ensembles including the University Brass Choir, Symphonic Winds, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. There are also many smaller groups in which to perform, including brass quintets, trumpet ensembles, and instrumentally varied jazz combos. The trumpet ensemble recently performed at the 2015 KMEA and ITG Conferences!. . The trumpet studio is the fastest growing studio in the NKU School of the Arts - Music Program. Students are given the opportunity to perform solo and chamber music in Brass Performance Class, a forum that brings all of NKU’s brass majors together and fosters preparation for recitals and other performance situations. In addition to weekly instruction and frequent performances by NKU faculty, students also attend concerts and master classes given by guest artists on the NKU campus. Some recent guest artists include Joe Burgstaller, Ingrid Jensen, Peter Wood, Richard Tirk, Scott Belk, David Scott, Fountain City Brass Band, Pat Harbison, Mike Vax, Brad Goode, Branford Marsalis, Jeff Coffin, Libby Larson and Philip Glass. NKU has also been a recent host for the 2013 Ohio ITG Tri-State Conference and will be hosting the International Women’s Brass Conference on June 4-8, 2014. New opportunities for the studio, including an international trip, are on the horizon!. . Besides the many on-campus performances, trumpet students may enjoy many off-campus performance opportunities based on their talent and interest.
