Growing up in Kolkata, Suchismita Dasgupta was surrounded by handloom and handicraft from a very young age. Form, texture, design and techniques soon began to intrigue her. Her love for traditional Indian weaves made her want to wear them all the time and not just in form of sarees. She felt the need of creating comfortable yet exclusive garments using the traditional textiles and techniques. Hence, she formed Nextiles ten years ago, in 2004. . . Nextiles focuses on the most important aspects of a garment: fabric, fit, and tailoring quality. The goal is to create stylish and comfortable clothes with clean, simple lines that allow the personality of the wearer to come through. Working closely with the weavers, embroiderers and printers from all over India, Nextiles' main focus is to translate the traditional handwork into styles that suit the urban needs.. . Nextiles also works as a platform for any art/textile professional, who works with the same vision of developing and promoting Indian Textiles.. . Suchismita always had a knack for styling, her experience in Advertising helped her further. This led her to start designing costumes for films. Initially she worked as a designer cum stylist for various TV shows; her first break came in films when some of her designs were used in Parineeta. Since then she has worked in various regional, national and international projects like Kahaani, BBD, Jackpot, 033, Chaturanga, Mahanagar@Kolkata, Gangor, Abosheshe, Koyekti Meyer Golpo, Laptop, Nondini, Raju, Rang Milanti, Half Serious, Shabdo, C/O Sir to name a few. She also won the award for best costume for Koekti Meyer Golpo at the Madrid International Film Festival 2013.
