As of the 2010 Census, the city population was 4,589.
The city contains the largest population of any municipality in the county, yet encompasses the smallest area.
It is the second smallest city by population in Vermont.HistoryIn 1753, the Abenakis brought the ransomed John Stark down Lake Memphremagog and came ashore where Newport is now situated.
