A Good Confession of Faith. Even from the first day of the church as we read of it in the book of Acts, Christians have always strived to summarize their Christian testimony into statements of faith, creeds and confessions. To hold to a formal statement of our faith means we stand united with Christians of generations past, for they, too, summarized and stated their beliefs in the same way. Our confession is called the Westminster Confession of Faith, written in the 17th century, and yet, as many have continued to observe, is one of the finest summations of biblical truth ever penned by mere man. . . Here is a list of some of the most essential points of its doctrine:. •We believe in the Trinity, that there is one God who exists eternally in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one in power and glory.. . •We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts, and carefully and providentially preserved for His people down through time. A History in the Community. New Covenant Presbyterian Church began in 1978 as a small Bible study. The first pastor, the Reverend Larry Wanaselja, served faithfully for 20 years. After ten years of steady growth, and worshipping in three different temporary locations, we were able to purchase and build a new church facility on our current five acres in the 924 corridor. We have been located at 128 St. Mary’s Church Road in Abingdon, Maryland since February of 1986. In 2002, we enlarged our facilities to include a gymnasium and an educational wing and parking for up to 400 people. Here we gather to worship, fellowship, educate our adults and children, and provide many other services important to families and a growing community.. . An Affiliation with a Faithful Denomination. New Covenant is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). The PCA has over 330,000 members in churches throughout the United States and Canada and more than 600 missionaries throughout the world. The PCA is a denomination that is both conservative and energetic. In theology it is committed to the full authority of the Bible, affirming the tenets of historic Christianity that salvation can be found only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. In proclamation and mission, it is energetic, eager to answer Christ’s Great Commission and so present people with the good news of life with God in Christ, an invitation to become disciples, and to apply the truths of the Bible to both personal, family and social problems.. . .
