Das Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst in Köln ist auf ostasiatische Kunst spezialisiert und liegt an der Universitätsstraße Nr.

Es geht zurück auf die Sammlung von Adolf Fischer (1856 bis 1914) und seiner Frau Frieda (1874–1945).GeschichteFischers Sammlung wurde zuerst im alten Gebäude des Kunstgewerbemuseums am Hansaring 32 gegenüber dem Hansaplatz untergebracht, wo ursprünglich auch das heutige Museum für Angewandte Kunst und das Museum Schnütgen (Nr.
32a) ihre Sammlungen zeigten.
Nach der Grundsteinlegung am 24.
Januar 1911 konnte das von Franz Brantzky konzipierte Museumsgebäude für Ostasiatische Kunst am 25.
Oktober 1913 an der Ecke Adolf-Fischer-Straße / Gereonswall eröffnet werden.
Ziel des Museums war es, in geschlossener Form die gesamte ostasiatische Kunst zu zeigen.
Nach dem Tod von Adolf Fischer übernahm 1914 seine Frau Frieda bis zu ihrer Entlassung durch die Nationalsozialisten 1937 die Leitung des Museums.
Die 900 Exponate umfassende Sammlung wurde vor den Kriegszerstörungen vom April 1944 gerettet.

1976 wurde nach den Plänen des Japaners Kunio Maekawa am Aachener Weiher ein neuer Bau errichtet und am 2.
