In un percorso circolare e in un allestimento di grande impronta didattica si inizia con la Sala del Territorio e i temi della preistoria e della protostoria: la nascita dell’agricoltura e dei villaggi, il culto e le città dei morti nel Neolitico (6000-3400 a.C. ca.); i contatti con le culture europee, i primi metalli nel periodo Eneolitico (3400-2200 a.C. ca.); si racconta il culto nelle grotte, la vita quotidiana delle comunità nuragiche, lo sfruttamento delle miniere nell’Età del Bronzo (2200-900 a.C. ca.) e infine i cambiamenti dell’Età del Ferro con i nuovi modelli di insediamento, e la presenza dei Fenici (900-550 a.C. ca.) . Attraverso le vedute della antica Via Sulcitana si giunge alla seconda sala, dedicata al Sulcis fenicio, illustrato dai materiali di Sulky- Sant’Antioco, il centro dominante, e il centro costiero di Bitia; entrando ancora di più nello specifico si giunge alla Sala di Monte Sirai (sala 3): la vita del centro fenicio e punico (750 -100 a.C. ca.) è descritta attraverso i temi ampi del culto e dei rituali funerari e le ricostruzioni della vita quotidiana (una cucina, diverse sepolture in fossa e a camera ecc. ). Percorrendo poi le rampe a ritroso si ritrova il paesaggio in età fenicia e punica e romana. La parete destra della sala 1, infine, descrive il territorio in età romana (238 a.C. - 500 d.C. ca., con i miliari della Via Sulcitana e le necropoli di Carbonia), compreso quello sommerso, con gli antichi approdi e i relitti della costa sulcitana. . .
