Sırasıyla Elmalık Köyü İlkokulu, Yalova Ortaokulu, Yalova Endüstri Meslek Lisesi ve son olarak da Uludağ Üniversitesi Necatibey Eğitim Fakültesinden mezun oldu.. . Çeşitli liselerde Fizik öğretmenliği yaptı. Daha sonra memuriyetten istifa ederek, Yalova’da özel bir dershanenin kuruculuğuna öncülük etti. Aynı dershanede yönetici ve öğretmen olarak görev yaptı. Bu süre içinde Özel Dershaneler Birliğinin (ÖZDE-BİR) Yalova temsilciliğini yaptı ve birliğin, Türkiye genelindeki örgütlenmesinde aktif görevler üstlendi. . . 1995 yılında Yalova’nın il yapılmasıyla ilgili komisyonda görev aldı.. 1996 yılında Yalova Atatürkçü Düşünce Derneği Şube Başkanlığı yaptı.. Bir dönem Yalovaspor Yönetim Kuruluna seçildi ve kulübün Basın Sözcüsü oldu.. Yerel gazetelerde ve ulusal basında çok sayıda makale ve şiirleri yayınlandı.. CHP'nin tüm birimlerinde görev aldı. İlçe Yönetim Kurulu üyeliği, İlçe Eğitim Sekreterliği, İl Başkan yardımcılığı, Kurultay Delegeliği görevinde bulundu. 18 Nisan 1999 seçimlerinden önce İl Başkanlığına seçildi.. 3 Kasım 2002 tarihinde yapılan Genel Seçimlerde Milletvekili adayı olabilmek için görevinden istifa etti. . Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi'nden 22, 23, 24. Dönem Yalova Milletvekili seçildi. iki dönem Milli Eğitim Komisyonu üyesi olarak görev yaptı. CHP Grup Başkanvekilliği görevine 4 kez seçildi. Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi'nin 18. Olağanüstü Kurultayı'nda Genel Başkan adayı oldu, 415 delegenin oyunu aldı.. 25. dönem CHP Yalova Milletvekili adayı.. Yayınlanmış dört kitabı bulunuyor.. Evli ve bir oğlu vardır.. .
