Pulaski Township Park District strives to provide the township, community, and area with public parks, facilities and programs that enhance the well-being of our citizens and visitors. There are several problem areas for the pool at this time.. 1. The pool is aluminum and over many years pinhole leaks have been discovered yearly. Last year, seven holes were plugged by welding.. 2. The concrete decking continues to settle even though over half of the concrete decking was replaced approximately 7 years ago. We believe the numerous leaks continue to cause settling beneath the decks.. 3. The circulation system is old and in need of replacement.. 4. The “kiddy/wading pool” is closed to due new requirements from the Illinois Department of Public Health requiring a completely separate filtration system. . 5. The bath house is literally deteriorating and settling, requiring demolition and a new structure. (A certified building inspector’s report is available.). 6. The U.S. Department of Justice American Disabilities Act now requires a wheel chair lift for disabled citizens. The Park Board has purchased the wheel chair lift for this summer season at a cost of $5,673.00.. . The Park Board has solicited input from many citizens in the community. We are convinced that there is a public desire to keep the pool in our community. We are confident that this summer will be the last that we can operate with the current facility. Funding is the issue. A tax increase for the residents of the Mt. Pulaski Township seems unfair to the users and taxpayers of Mt. Pulaski Township. It is unfortunate that our boundaries are not the same as the school district, which would spread the cost, diminish the amount, and be more equitable to the users of the facility. Though many in the area do not use the facility, we believe the economic impact of having a swimming pool as part of our parks is significant. As a Park Board, we are informing you of the issues. We are open to any reasonable suggestion or combination of suggestions. We are not opposed to another “Pool Foundation” approach. We are willing to hold a public meeting with representatives from Chester Pools present to explain the pool options. We ask the public to review the attached options with cost estimates for each. The options do not include any estimate for the demolition of the bathhouse and chemical room. The construction of a new bathhouse is estimated at $75,000 to $100,000. We do believe that the attached options are the most economical means of keeping a pool in Mt. Pulaski. We want to hear from you! (Note: The Lincoln Park District is in the process of removing their pool and replacing it at an estimated cost of $3 million.) .
