I’m Adam Skaggs and I’ll be your Guide, Chef and Instructor. . Born Lakeland Florida, I learned to fish from my granddad. Large mouth bass and crappie on Kissemee Lake. I moved to Hagerstown Maryland where I caught catfish and smallmouth bass through my high school years on the Patomac river. The day after graduation I made followed my heart and headed west to Yellowstone national park. I lived in Cooke City MT for six years just out side the park and fished the Yellowstone river and it's surrounding tributaries. Next I moved to Big Sky and found a home where I raised a family and started my career as a fly guide. I’ve guided thousands of friends and family on the Gallatin River (where Brad Pitt fished in the movie ‘A River Runs Through It), The Madison River, Yellowstone River, and small secret pockets of heaven hidden in the valleys of the surrounding mountains. After 13 years of making memories in Montana I followed my dream and moved to the Florida Keys fish for Tarpon, Bonefish, Shark and every other incredible fish found in these waters. . Besides Fishing, my passion is food. When you join me on the water I supply the home-cooked meal too. There’s nothing greater in this world than fishing and good eats. . My services are custom to your skillset. If you’ve never flyfished I’ll spend time to make sure you have the basics down. Lessons are available for those who just want to try it out. If you’re a seasoned fly fisherman I’ll get you on some fish asap. Bringing your family? In Montana i have room for 2 in my drift boat but sometimes it’s just better to rent some waders and head down to the honey holes and get the kiddos on their first trout. Browns, Rainbows, Brookies and Cutthroat. I have room for two in my Flats boat in the Keys as well. . Not sure what to expect? Here’s a right up from Minnesota. . I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I rolled into Marathon Key late one night in February. I had not seen Adam since we fished together 5 years prior on the Madison River during a 6 hour long float trip. Adam was pumped I was making my way to the Keys to fulfill my dream of catching a Tarpon. . First Adam put food in my belly then said “let’s go!”. 1 hour from the time I arrived in Marathon I had my first Tarpon on my line. Then another one. Then 2 more. . The next day we got up early, ate breakfast and headed out to find a school of tarpon Adam had scoped out the day before. We found them and well…. I had to pinch myself a few times. It didn’t end there….. I caught barracuda, a small shark and saw stingray and a handful of sea turtles. . The next day a good friend drove down from Orlando. We headed out to fish for Shark under the 7 mile bridge. We caught several species of smaller fish and then it happened. Spinner Sharks and Lemon Sharks… To big to get in the boat but awesome to see when we reeled them in close enough you could have pet them. . Incredible is an understatement. Adam delivers… plain and simple. Safe to say I’ll be headed back down to the keys this winter. And I hope to get on some hogs back out west in his drift boat the locals call “green machine”. .
