Detailed description is Interdisziplinäre Forschungseinrichtung zu europäisch-jüdischen Themen der Vergangenheit und Gegenwart; An-Instiut der Universität Potsdam Das Moses Mendelssohn Zentrum für europäisch-jüdische Studien (MMZ), im Jahre 1992 gegründet und nach dem Philosophen und Aufklärer Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786) benannt, ist ein interdisziplinär arbeitendes wissenschaftliches Forschungszentrum, das historische, philosophische, religions-, literatur- und sozialwissenschaftliche Grundlagenforschung betreibt. Als An-Institut der Universität Potsdam ist es maßgeblich am Studiengang "Jüdische Studien/Jewish Studies" beteiligt. Die Mitarbeiter, Fellows und Lehrbeauftragten des MMZ bringen die gesamte Breite ihrer wissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen und Kenntnisse in die Lehre dieses Studiengangs ein.. . Das Forschungsinteresse des MMZ gilt der Geschichte, Religion und Kultur der Juden und des Judentums in den Ländern Europas. Ein besonderer Akzent liegt dabei auf der Beziehungsgeschichte von Juden und nicht-jüdischer Umwelt. Die Forschungsarbeiten konzentrieren sich zum einen auf Probleme der gesellschaftlichen Integration und Akkulturation der Juden (u.a. Haskala-Forschung), zum anderen auf vergleichende sozialgeschichtliche Fragestellungen (Lebensbedingungen, geographische und soziale Mobilität), soziokulturelle und ideengeschichtliche Aspekte (Literatur, Kunst, Religion, Philosophie, Musik). Wesentliche Akzente setzt das Zentrum in der Aufarbeitung der Regional- und Lokalgeschichte, insbesondere der neuen deutschen Bundesländer.
