You always hear stories about other families that have gone through such a hardship, but you never think in a million years that it could happen to your family. The truth is that it can happen to anyone; and it has happened to our someone.. . Our sister, who is lovingly know as "monkeytown" , was recently diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. After months of constant pain, kidney blockages, and three surgeries, the doctors discovered our worst fear: they had found a tumor the size of a lemon. Her team of doctors informed us that she was in stage three and the tumor could not be removed with surgery. The only option was chemo and radiation. . . When news like this hits, you wonder what you can do to help as your person begins the literal fight of their life. Truthfully, there isn't much you can do, but be supportive and loving. The reality left us all feeling very helpless. All of us asking, "why her?", "why that someone?". There is not one of us that doesn't wish we could take her gloves and fight in her stead. Sadly, life doesn't work that way; So, we are left to watch as she fights while wondering what we can do to make a difference. . . Now, as reality sets in, more problems come to light. When your body is that sick and you have a treatment regime of that magnitude, work becomes a virtual impossibility. This can be a concern not only from a financial stand point but also a health insurance stand point. Who will pay the premium if you don't have a paycheck? . . As we scrambled to figure out how to overcome these new obstacles, we learned about an amazing show of human compassion. Our sister's fellow teachers came together to give a wonderfully impactful gift that has inspired us to help others in similar situations. That group of teachers gave up their vacation and sick time so that our sister could continue to draw a paycheck and, more importantly, pay her insurance premiums. We tremendously thank this group of people that showed compassion to our sister and inspired us on our journey of giving. . . As our "monkey town" continues to go through treatment, we are coming together to establish Monkey Town Tees: a company that has formed a partnership with the Monkey Town Foundation in order to give back. With the help of this foundation, we will seek out families in need and do our best to make sure bills are paid during trying times such as Monkey Town's. It is our goal to follow the selfless and benevolent example set by those teachers. . . We pledge to donate for each t-shirt, in the monkeytown original line, sold to the Monkey Town Foundation. All proceeds, after cost, will go to the foundation. We will also donate a portion of the profit for all other t-shirts not in the line.
