Moiety Scholarship Fund is a Non profit Organization established in 2015 by immediate family members of late Jimmy Shendo to help Jemez Pueblo college students achieve higher education.
The Scholarship is named after Jimmy's former Native American music band, Jimmy Shendo and Moiety.
Jimmy Shendo was a member of the Jemez Pueblo tribe located in New Mexico.
He was a songwriter and singer who worked very hard to create music that teaches the values and traditions of Native American culture.
Him and his band had just started to gain recognition and won various music awards including Best Native American Traditional at the New Mexico Music Awards in 2009.
In the same year of 2009, Jimmy Shendo & Moiety's album Walking the Life Road was nominated for Debut Duo or Group of the Year at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards.
Late in the same year of 2009, Jimmy was in a fatal car crash on U.S 550, and that's when he journeyed to the spirit world.
He was traveling home from Durango where he was visiting students from the Fort Lewis Native American Center.
One of Jimmy's passionate goal was to raise enough money to start a Scholarship Fund to support Native American College Students because he knew our people have the intellectual abilities to succeed in their quest for higher education, but lack the financial resources.
To carry Jimmy's goal, Moiety Scholarship Fund was created by immediate family members with the help of proud supporters of the Moiety Scholarship Fund.
Moiety Scholarship Fund is in partnership with Jemez Pueblo Education Department to help administer the scholarship.
Family members of Jimmy and volunteers work hard to raise money for the Scholarship at the Annual Memorial Day Weekend Shoot-out Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament.
