Who we are: In 1999 a group of evangelical pastors and missions professionals began to discuss the diverse needs of the city of Miami and the decision was made to begin graduate and undergraduate theological training accessible to all levels and languages of the city.
Miami International Seminary, MINTS, began with 30 students in 2001.
Since then the school/mission has grown internationally so that only 1% of the work is in Miami and the USA and in June 2011 the name was changed to MINTS International Seminary to reflect the global reach..

Method: Our ministry exists to establish financially self-sufficient, indigenously owned-and-operated training centers/seminaries in the language and culture of the local people.
We work with national believers to develop regionally sensitive curricula in their languages, to develop future professors from among them, and to share the results of their studies throughout our interconnected global system.
Key to the missionary purpose of MINTS is the requirement that centers multiply in their regions, languages, and spheres of influence.

Need: One of the biggest needs of the Christian church is a trained, motivated and educated leadership.
From 1960 to 1980 the evangelical church grew from 25 million to 715 million, a 28-fold increase.
This massive growth resulted in many churches having untrained pastors.
For example, in 2000 there were 2,000,000 third-world pastors, but less than 5% (100,000) had any Bible training.
For years, the proposed solution for the lack of trained pastors was to bring a few leaders to the USA for schooling.
Yet 80% who came to study remained in the United States, and all were trained in a language and culture foreign to that of their homelands.
There is a pressing need for quality biblical ministry training in the language, culture, and homeland of the indigenous believer.

Who we train: We work with motivated indigenous leaders who are eager to teach their own people and who seek both a short term and a long term structure for training.
We work with those who have local church approval and connection.
More than 90% of the time we are responding to those who contacted us for help.
We desire, through them, to work with people- group movements and assist the mass training of leaders for ministry in their area and language group.
We have developed formats for doing this, and we are working to implement leadership training for mass people-group movements..

The MINTS Solution: Training and equipping national believers with a ministry education, showing them how to multiply what they have learned, awarding recognized degrees, then assisting them to start new centers for their people, and others, on their continent.

We do this by:.
• Starting with existing national resources, both human and material, by providing an initial curriculum, and by teaching nationals to develop their own curricula..
• Teaching their teachers and developing future professors from the beginning while giving them ownership and leadership responsibilities in the MINTS center..
• Teaching a different philosophy of education, i.e., an orientation to take education to the people, to form new schools, and to mature up new instructors.
Instead of making the school a central hub where people gather to listen to scholars, we make the student, not the institution, our focus.
We encourage our centers not to own buildings but to use churches and other available space and to act immediately on what they have learned..
• Encouraging nationals to charge minimal tuition.
All funds they collect stay in the country under their jurisdiction.
Half of the tuition is to be used to develop their own study center and half is to be saved to start new centers when they are ready..
• Providing degrees: Certificate, AA, BA, MA, MDiv, DMin, and PhD, all in Theological Studies.
Credible degrees from a US based institution are of great value in churches of emerging nations where a confusing array of programs, seminars, and courses exist..

Does it work? Since 2001, when MINTS offered its first class to 30 Miami students, it has grown to 15,530 students in 83 countries with 550 study centers in 14 languages.
MINTS has produced 3,030 graduates for ministry and written 420+ courses.
Currently 31 doctoral-level students are each writing 5 courses in their own languages for use among their language group..
Cuba started with 1 center and now has 220 with 9,000 students.
Colombia started with 1 center and now has 37 with 500+ students.
Turkey started with 1 center and now has 4 with an extension in Iran.
When we receive requests for new centers in South America, the Colombian MINTS leaders go to set them up for us.
One denomination in India has appointed 30 pastors to train the other pastors in 1,020 of their churches using MINTS.
