Der Mindener Dom St.
Gorgonius und St.
Petrus ist eine römisch-katholische Propsteikirche in der ostwestfälischen Stadt Minden in Nordrhein-Westfalen.Der Mindener Dom war die Bischofskirche des um 800 von Karl dem Großen in Minden gegründeten Bistums Minden.
Die katholische Diözese näherte sich bereits Mitte des 16.
Jahrhunderts in der Reformation dem Protestantismus an.
Mit dem Westfälischen Frieden 1648 wurde die Diözese de facto aufgehoben, ebenso wie das aus der Diözese als geistliches Territorium entstandene Fürstbistum Minden.
Nach Aufhebung des Bistums erhielt der Dom den Status einer römisch-katholischen Pfarrkirche, die 1859 zur Propsteikirche erhoben wurde.
Heute gehört er zum Erzbistum Paderborn.Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte wuchs der Dom baugeschichtlich von einer einfachen Saalkirche über eine karolingisch-romanische Basilika mit monumentalem Westwerk zur heutigen gotischen Hallenkirche mit romanischem Westriegel.
Das lichtvolle, hochgotische Langhaus und seine großen Maßwerkfenster waren stilprägend für eine Reihe späterer Kirchenbauten.
Fast 600 Jahre lang blieb der Mindener Dom so gut wie unverändert, bis er im Zweiten Weltkrieg bei einer Bombardierung der Altstadt am 28.
März 1945 beinahe völlig zerstört wurde.
In den 1950er Jahren wurde er unter der Leitung des Architekten Werner March wieder aufgebaut.
