MLA was founded in September of 2001 in response to the community’s need for a school where students are respected, challenged academically and develop the leadership qualities necessary to actively participate in the transformation of their community. In 2009, the school started its dual-language immersion program (Spanish/English). . . We now serve over 500 students representing a cross-section of the racial and social diversity of Oakland.
