Martin Hall dannede som 16-årig bandet Identity, der kort efter debuten i 1979 skiftede navn til Ballet Mécanique. Gruppen udsendte i 1981 lp’en ”The Icecold Waters of the Egocentric Calculation”, der regnes for en af dansk postpunks vigtigste udgivelser. Spillede i samme periode med bl.a. Before, No Knox og Pesteg Dred. Debuterede som forfatter i 1983, samme år hvor han blev optaget ved Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademis Billedkunstskoler. . . Modtog i 1995 Statens Kunstfonds treårige arbejdslegat som komponist. Fik i 2005 sit litterære gennembrud med romanen ”Den sidste romantiker”. Udgav i 2009 albummet ”Hospital Cafeterias”, hvor han bl.a. samarbejdede med medlemmer af Efterklang samt Else Marie Pade og Claus Beck-Nielsen Memorial (a.k.a. Das Beckwerk). . . I 2013 var hans klassisk instrumenterede værk ”If Power Asks Why” nomineret til P2′s “Lyt til Nyt”-pris 2013. Hans seneste soloalbum, det meget roste ”Phasewide, Exit Signs”, er blevet udgivet i flere europæiske lande.
