Detailed description is Das Martin Gropius Krankenhaus ist ein Fachkrankenhaus für Neurologie und Psychiatrie in Eberswalde.Das Gebäude wurde vom Berliner Architekten Martin Gropius 1862 bis 1865 im Auftrag der Landstände der Kurmark Brandenburg als „Land-Irren-Anstalt Neustadt-Eberswalde“ erbaut. Es entstand eine ästhetisch ansprechende, funktionale und repräsentative Anlage im Block-System. Sie begründete Gropius’ Ruf als führender Krankenhausarchitekt seiner Zeit. Sein Entwurf war wegweisend für das wenig später aufkommende Pavillonsystem.Bis 1945 wurde der Gebäudekomplex als Landesanstalt der Provinz Brandenburg betrieben. Danach nutzte ihn die Rote Armee bis 1994 als Hospital. Die Nervenklinik wurde in Nebengebäuden untergebracht. Ab 1997 wurde der Bau grundlegend saniert. 2002 zog die Landesklinik wieder in das Gebäude ein. 2006 wurden die Landkreise Barnim und Uckermark gemeinsam mit der Stadt Eberswalde Träger. Das Krankenhaus erhielt seinen heutigen Namen.Das „Martin Gropius Krankenhaus“ beherbergt Kliniken für Neurologie, für Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie und -psychotherapie, für (Erwachsenen-) Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie, für Forensische Psychiatrie, ein Schlaflabor sowie einen Fachbereich für sozialpsychiatrische Rehabilitation.
