Detailed description is After restoring and reopening the Strand Theatre in Oak Bluffs and the Capawock Theatre in Vineyard Haven, this nonprofit is $125k short of its $1m goal.
I am writing to you about the presently closed Strand and Capawock theaters in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, whose decay and deterioration has been a heart-breaking sight to many of us.

For many months we have been working to secure control of these buildings.
Now, the Martha’s Vineyard Theater Foundation, Inc.
which I established, has now successfully negotiated a 10-year lease with the owner for each theater.

I know that you not only love the Vineyard but have been as unhappy as we have been to see these once-thriving iconic buildings decay and become a blight on the center of the towns of Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.

The Foundation’s philanthropic efforts are well underway to lease, renovate and reopen these historic theaters by Memorial Day Weekend this year, and we need your help.

We are making important progress, with just three weeks to raise funding and then start construction so as to be ready by summer..

We are assembling a dedicated group of Patrons for the new non-profit Martha's Vineyard Theater Foundation.
