Detailed description is The mission of the Macon Symphony Orchestra is to educate and enrich the people of Middle Georgia through live professional symphonic music.. In a typical season, the Orchestra reaches some 15,000 people through its varied concerts that include five classical programs performed at the Grand Opera House located in historic downtown Macon. Additionally, the Orchestra performs two pops concerts and one concert annually in a neighboring town.. . Placing a great emphasis on educating as well as entertaining the public, the MSO offers scores of musical opportunities for more than 5,000 area youth each year, including live symphonic performances for Bibb County fifth graders, visits to elementary classrooms by a trio of professional musicians, an “Instrument Petting Zoo” where children can try out orchestral instruments and meet our musicians, scholarships for young string players, two annual concerto competitions from which the winners perform with the MSO, and the Macon Symphony Youth Orchestra.
