May 15 - 16, 2015 In striving to draw visitors to our area in the 1960s, local leaders recognized the value of our musical heritage and decided to showcase local talent by starting the Arkansas Folk Festival.
The festival was immensely popular and experienced peak attendance during folk movement of the 1970s.
Mountain View, Arkansas, dubbed itself “Folk Music Capital of the World.” Since that time, we have experienced such an influx of various musical styles that the traditional music is being supplanted by more modern sounds.
The music that is such a vital part of our local heritage would be lost already if not for a few people clinging to it tenaciously.
Our goal is to reverse that trend and restore true old-time music to prominence in the Mountain View music scene..
