Please share his story! My name is Chad Hampton and I am in need of a kidney transplant.
Let me tell you a little about me and how I got to this point.
For twenty years, I have been married to my beautiful wife Rita Hampton.
I am the father of an outstanding and loving son Seth who is eleven-years-old.
He loves sports, reading, and playing video games.
He is an honor roll student at Thompson Sixth Grade Center and was just elected to the student council.
Our family are members of New Vision Christian Church located in Helena, AL .

Since the age of about thirty-three, I have fought like a warrior against diabetes and hypertension.
Because of the diabetes and hypertension, in 2012, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
Now at the age of 50, despite all that I have tried to do, my kidneys are functioning at only twenty percent.
My commitment to regular exercise, diet management, keeping regular doctor’s appointments, and taking all medications as prescribed has allowed me to slow the progression of the disease.

For the past three years, I have helped coach my son’s basketball team.
This year, I have had the pleasure of helping coach his sixth-grade football team.
This was a real joy.
We did not won many games, but my time with my son and his teammates were priceless.
I compare football to the fight I am in with chronic kidney disease.
You just never give up, but you keep on fighting in football and in life.
I continued to do all these activities while my kidneys were failing..

For nine years, I served in the National Guard and am currently employed at Mercedes- Benz MBUSI in Vance where I have been employed for twenty years.
At Mercedes, I started on the production line in the body shop and worked my way up to managing the body shop.
Because of my health, I recently had to step down from my manager’s position and take another position in order to focus more on my health.

Without a kidney transplant, I will begin preparing for dialysis.
Dialysis will require me to be hooked to a machine many days a week to eliminate waste and unwanted water from my blood.
My hope is that I will be able to continue to work full-time to provide for my family.
The wait for a deceased kidney could take up to ten years.

I have been to three hospitals for transplant evaluations- Emory of Atlanta, GA; Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN; and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
I am currently on the transplant list at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

I hope and pray that my story is shared time and time again and is read by someone who God has purposed and who is willing to learn more about living kidney donations..
