Detailed description is Сражение при Брайс-Кроссроудс, иногда — сражение при Гантауне, произошло 10 июня 1864 года около Болдуина, в округе Ли, штат Миссисипи, во время гражданской войны в США. В этом сражении отряд генерала Натана Форреста встретил федеральный отряд Самуэля Стёрджиса численностью 8 100 человек. Сражение завершилось разгромом федеральной армии и принесло Форресту славу лучшего кавалериста страны.ПредысторияВ мае 1864 года Камберлендская армия Шермана начала наступление на Атланту. На стороне Шермана было численное преимущество, однако его беспокоила растянутость и уязвимость его коммуникаций. В свою очередь, и командование Теннессийской армии понимало, что разбить Шермана можно только в том случае, если удастся отрезать его от баз снабжения. Чтобы этого не произошло, Шерман приказал генералу Самуэлю Стёрджису возглавить отряд численностью 8 500 человек, вторгнуться в северную часть штата Миссисипи и разгромить генерала Форреста и его отряд. 1 июня Стёрджис со своим отрядом выступил из Мемфиса. В распоряжении Стёрджиса было 4 800 пехотинцев, 3 300 кавалеристов, 22 орудия и обоз из 250 вагонов. Это были опытные солдаты, вооружённые многозарядными винтовками Кольта и казнозарядными карабинами.Командование Юга узнало об этом манёвре и предупредило Форреста, который находился в Теннесси. Форрест немедленно отправил навстречу Стёрджису всю свою кавалерию, кроме одной дивизии. 9 июня Форрест встал лагерем в Бунвилле, который находился в 18 милях от Перекрестка.
