A successful athletic career paved his way towards a scholarship to the University of South Carolina where he earned All-SEC honors in the Pole Vault while graduating with a degree in Sociology and Business. This highly competitive and driven mindset blended seamlessly with the stresses, structure and brotherhood of the professional kitchen. Starting through a promotion from busboy to line cook at the age of 15, Bell’s inadvertent gastronomic foundation would trigger a lifelong obsession.. . Throughout his career, Bell has worked in many esteemed and award winning restaurants in Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Charleston S.C. and most recently was honored to work and train at the Michelin starred restaurant WD-50 under Chef Wylie Dufresne – recipient of the 2013 James Beard Foundation Award – Best Chef New York City.. . Bell’s culinary style reflects both his forward thinking and his in-depth knowledge of food: Minimal ingredients harvested at their prime for optimal taste prepared in ways both nostalgic and innovative. His understanding of the science behind cooking and how it correlates with the palate shines through in his use of nouvelle technique expressed on classic fare. Most of his ingredients are personally foraged; primarily utilizing indigenous, ancient and heirloom varietals.. .
