Sie weisen innerhalb der deutschsprachigen Chinastudien ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal auf.. . Es geht bei dieser Herangehensweise weniger um ein „Reden über … “ das heutige China, seine historischen Herleitungen und inneren wie globalen Wechselwirkungen als vielmehr darum, sich dialogisch an chinesische Wirklichkeiten und Wirklichkeitsvorstellungen sowie an symbolische Repräsentationen und die technische Kommunikation von Selbst- und Weltverhältnissen anzunähern. Die „Chinastudien“ grenzen sich gegenüber anderen Forschungszugängen zu China demgemäß weniger über die Gegenstände der Forschung ab als vielmehr über die Art der Formulierung von Fragen und das methodische Herangehens an Problemstellungen.. . Unter „Kultur“ verstehen sich dabei alle Formen menschlicher Selbst- und Weltdarstellung. In der Forschung und Lehre gilt es daher, diese in ihren textuellen Strukturen zu erfassen und hinsichtlich ihrer anthropologischen Konstanten resp. ihrer umweltbedingten Spezifika zu untersuchen. Es geht darum, einen vertieften Einblick in die unterschiedlichen unter dem Begriff „Chinesisch“ nur unzureichend subsumierten Selbstverhältnisse und damit auch in die Prozesse von Wirtschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft in China und der globalisierten Welt zu gewinnen. . . Zugleich gilt es, auf der Grundlage solider kulturwissenschaftlicher, medienwissenschaftlicher und philosophischer Methodenkenntnisse Lösungsstrategien für Probleme zu entwickeln, bei denen China nicht mehr als Differenz, als das ewige kulturelle Andere, sondern vielmehr als eine Alterität, als mit seinen vielfältigen Akteuren ein Bedeutungen und Bedeutsamkeiten generierender Dialogpartner zu begreifen ist.
