Detailed description is Das Kuno-Wildreservat oder Kuno-Palpur-Wildreservat ist ein 1280 Quadratkilometer großes Schutzgebiet im indischen Bundesstaat Madhya-Pradesh. Nicht weit entfernt liegt der Madhav-Nationalpark.Die hügelige Landschaft liegt zwischen 238 und 498 m über dem Meeresspiegel und wird vom Kuno-Fluss durchzogen. Ein Kerngebiet von 345 km² wurde 1981 als Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary von der International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources in die Kategorie IV eingestuft. Inzwischen wurde das Gebiet um rund 900 km² erweitert und soll zum Nationalpark (Kategorie II) erklärt werden.FloraDie Vegetation des insgesamt 3000 Quadratkilometer großen Ökosystems besteht vorwiegend aus Grasland, Trockenwäldern und Savannen.FaunaDas Schutzgebiet wurde als Ort einer möglichen Auswilderung des Asiatischen Löwen in Erwägung gezogen.In Kuno ist darüber hinaus auch die Auswilderung des Geparden geplant, der bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts in Indien vorkam. Der letzte Gepard Indiens wurde im Jahr 1947 im östlichen Madhya Pradesh geschossen. Die letzten knapp 100 Tiere der asiatischen Unterart (Acinonyx jubatus venaticus) haben im Iran überlebt. Im Kuno-Gebiet könnten nach Schätzungen insgesamt etwa 90 Geparden ausreichend Lebensraum finden. Man geht dabei davon aus, dass ein Gepardenweibchen mit Jungen etwa 120 Beutetiere im Jahr benötigt. Bis die Gepardenpopulation stabil ist, sollten nach Meinung von Experten keine weiteren Raubtiere eingeführt werden. Kuno beherbergt bisher relativ kleine Populationen von Großraubtieren, was als günstig für die Ansiedlung von Geparden betrachtet wird. Zu den Huftieren des Reservats, die den Raubkatzen als potentielle Beutetiere dienen können, zählen Indische Gazellen, Axishirsche, Nilgauantilopen, Wildschweine und verwilderte Zeburinder. Darüber hinaus kommen Pfaue und Languren vor. Eine kleine Population von Hirschziegenantilopen hält sich im Nordostteil des Schutzgebietes auf. Die rund 2500 verwilderten Zeburinder, die von der Bevölkerung zurückgelassen wurden, als sie aus den Kernzonen umgesiedelt wurde, könnten den Löwen als Nahrungsgrundlage dienen, bis sich die Bestände an Wildtieren erhöht haben.
