As a few of you may know, I recently finished my first semester of graduate school at KSU.
This summer, with the help and guidance of Dr.
Yuri Feito, I will be running a study with 2 other graduate students.
We are trying to get at least 30 participants for our study and would love it if any of you could help! .

Also we are looking to start collecting data starting the week of June 6th through the week of August 8th, so if there is a particular day and time that works best for you, please let us know in the comment section so we can confirm that particualr date and time.

Purpose of the Study:.
1. Validate the use of a smart textile garment during a maximal effort treadmill test compared to a portable metabolic device.
2. Examine the performance of this garment during a bout of high-intensity functional training..
.
Procedures:.
- The study will be divided into 2 days.
Both days will be at the KSU Exercise Physiology Laboratory.
Each visit will last around 60 – 90 minutes.
All testing will be preformed wearing comfortable, athletic clothing (e.g.
shorts and t-shirt).
Prior to the initial visit, you are asked not to eat or drink anything other than water for 4 hours prior, and avoid alcoholic beverages 24 hours before testing.
We also ask that you refrain from exercising 12-hours before your testing session.

- The first visit will consist of collection of general information such as age, sex, height, weight, and body composition using Air Displacement Plethysmography (Bod Pod) and a graded exercise test on a treadmill to determine aerobic capacity.
Aerobic capacity will be measured via a mobile breath-by-breath metabolic system at rest and during exercise.
In addition, we will measure your heart rate response through the use of an electrocardiogram (ECG).
The ECG will require the placement of electrodes (stickies) to be attached to your skin on either side of your torso, below the clavicle and on the abdomen at the level of your navel..
- The exercise protocol will have you run at a self-selected speed and we will increase the elevation (percent grade) 1% every minute until exhaustion.
Prior to the test, you will be fitted with a base layer t-shirt (smart garment) under your regular t-shirt, which will serve as the measuring device we are validating.
You will be continuously monitored during the test and you are free to stop the test at any time.

- The second visit will take place one-week after your initial assessment and will consist of performing a standardize Crossfit routine in the KSU Exercise Physiology Laboratory.
Investigators will adhere the ECG electrodes, same portable metabolic system and similar base layer t-shirt used in the laboratory session to measure aerobic capacity throughout the activity.

Inclusion Criteria:.
a. Males and Females 18 – 45 years of age.
b. Regularly active, defined as participating in at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise an average of 5 days per week .
c. Have at least 6 months of Crossfit related experience.
d. Not pregnant.
e. No known orthopedic problems that limit ability to walk or run.
f. No known cardiovascular, pulmonary, or metabolic diseases.
g. Resting blood pressure < 160/100 mmHg.

Things to Know:.
- Everyone who participates receives a free Bod Pod Test.
- All shirts will be washed after each use following manufacturer recommendations.
- The results of your participation will be confidential and will not be released in any individually identifiable form without your prior consent unless required by law..
