Detailed description is Dirt Excavation From the day Oskaloosa native Duane King bought his first D-7 Caterpillar for soil conservation work in 1954, the excavating business that eventually became King’s Construction Co Inc has grown through hard work and dedication of the King family and their employees. What Duane started in 1954 his brother, Floyd, joined in 1959 and the business became King Brothers’ Construction until Duane retired in 1981. Although Floyd’s sons Dan and Kent had been working in the business since the 1970’s they officially partnered up with Floyd in 1987 when the organization incorporated. . With King’s nearing its 60th anniversary, the business is now employing over 60 workers and operating over 100 pieces of dirt-moving equipment. Over the years, King’s has also gone “headlong” into underground work, concrete, and federal and state work. Major projects include the Overland Park Soccer fields, I-70 Lecompton interchange, The University of Kansas Engineering Building ( and other miscellaneous work for KU), Berry Plastics, South US 59 Hwy, and many others. . Although King’s has developed into larger projects, it is still important to Dan and Kent to stay true to their roots. Building ponds and terraces for local farmers, landowners, and watersheds are still projects that are popular within the business. .
