Detailed description is A builder in the local Amish woodworking community since 1976 specializing in office units, home theaters, tv units, trim, doors, mantels, dining room sets, bathroom cabinets, bedroom suites and kitchens. Our story begins almost fifty years ago with an important choice for young Jake Kauffman, who was just striking out on his own in the world at twenty one years of age. Jake didn't know it at the time, but the choice before him would shape not only his future, but that of his family for generations to come.. . Jake had a serious decision to make. He needed to choose a path. He had to decide whether he wanted to work the land as a farmer like his father and fore father's before him had done or strike out on his own, following his heart by becoming an apprentice, learning to make furniture in the old, traditional ways from a master craftsman.. . For many years, Jake studied and honed his skills in the old Amish ways of building furniture and cabinets. He worked hard and soon mastered the time-honored techniques, becoming a respected craftsman in his own right. Realizing that he had learned everything he could as an apprentice, Jake wanted to do more. He saw the furniture and cabinet trends of the time, but was limited by the vision and scope of the shop owner. Years of making furniture and cabinets for wholesalers and commercial dealers was fine, but Jake needed more. Driven by a desire to broaden his skills, Jake decided to venture out on his own and start his business - a business that would cater to all types of styles and preferences, specializing in custom made furniture, built-ins and cabinets. . . Fast forward thirty years to their present location in Bourbon, Illinois, a newly expanded, state of the art showroom and production facility, with Joe Kauffman, Jake's son, at the helm of the business. The showroom, complete with all types of custom furniture and cabinetry is designed specifically around utilizing interchangeable pieces of trim and other unique components to demonstrate an array of custom possibilities. “Many of our features in the showroom are interchangeable”, Joe explained. “We want our customer to understand that the only limitation to what they can have is their imagination – if they can dream it, we can build it!” . . Joe, a highly skilled craftsman in his own right, learned the business from his father and is now widely considered one of the best builders in the country. "In the early days, we worked primarily for wholesalers and commercial clients and quite often, the only feedback we'd get would be about an occasional repair or matching accessory.” said Joe Kauffman “We decided to break free of the traditional designs that had long been defined the stereotypical 'hand-crafted' or 'country' furniture look and really focus on building for a more discriminating customer."
