Junior Basketball League (JRBL) adalah liga basket yang melibatkan pelajar SMP.
Awal berdiri pada tahun 2005, kompetisinya dikenal dengan sebutan DBL SMP dan digelar beriringan dengan liga basket SMA yang sudah heboh lebih dulu, DBL..

Tahun pertama penyelenggaraan, DBL SMP dibuka untuk seluruh pelajar SMP se-Jawa Timur.
Pada tahun pertama persaingan, peserta datang berbondong-bondong dari kota-kota yang cukup jauh dari Surabaya.

Lalu, mulai tahun 2006, area penyelenggaraan dibatasi.
Atas alasan jarak dan komitmen kompetisi, DBL SMP hanya diperuntukkan bagi pelajar di Surabaya dan sekitarnya (Sidoarjo dan Gresik)..

Meski wilayah kompetisi dipersempit, antusiasme peserta tak surut.
Saking serunya ajang ini, hadir kompetisi pendukung yang menyulap atmosfer DBL SMP tahun 2008 jadi makin bikin merinding, Yel-Yel Competition.
Baru di tahun 2011, kompetisi ini bertransformasi menjadi Dance Competition seperti di DBL SMA.
Lengkap sudah semarak basket level SMP yang pamornya makin naik daun ini..

Perkembangan pesat DBL SMP itu pun menyulut keputusan besar pihak penyelenggara.
Di tahun 2009, kompetisi level SMP tersebut dipisahkan dari DBL SMA.
Berdiri mandiri, gelaran DBL SMP lantas mendapat titel baru: DBL Junior (DBL Jr), dengan slogan imut “It’s Junior Time!”.
Kemasan penyelenggaraan pun dibuat lebih profesional dan berkelas..

Perubahan tersebut berimbas positif.
Kompetisi berlangsung lebih sengit dan seru.
Sepanjang penyelenggaraan, juara putra dan putri DBL Jr tak pernah direbut oleh sekolah yang sama.
Kualitas kompetisi pun ikut meningkat.
Sejumlah alumnus DBL Jr bahkan tergabung dalam skuad Timnas Muda Indonesia (U18), tim pilihan berisikan pebasket-pebasket muda terbaik yang turut mengharumkan nama tanah air di turnamen-turnamen internasional..

Begitu dipisah, suasana antara SMP dan ‘seniornya’ memang makin kentara bedanya.

Tahun ini, JRBL tak ragu melebarkan sayap ke empat kota.
Kota-kota yang menjadi sasaran ekspansi di tahun pertama adalah Jakarta, Bandung, Solo, dan Jogjakarta..
