Detailed description is Director Técnico. .Como Futbolista jugó para el Club Deportivo Guadalajara (1984-1988), emigró al Futbol Español al ser fichado por el Real Oviedo en la Temportada 1988-1989. Regresó a su país para formar parte del Puebla FC (1989-1991), Cruz Azul (1991-1993), Club Deportivo Guadalajara (1993-1995), Tigres de la UANL (1995-1996), Puebla FC (1996-1997) Fué Seleccionado Nacional bajo el mando de César Luis Menotti, y finalmente, terminó su carrera en Necaxa (1997-1999). Tras su retiro como Futbolista "Chepo" inició siendo Auxiliar Técnico de varios entrenadores como Mario Carrillo, Raúl Arias, Leo Beenhakker, Manuel Lapuente, entre otros, en su preparación como Director Técnico. En el 2006 asume dicha responsabilidad en el Club Deportivo Guadalajara, consiguiendo su primer campeonato como D.T. en su segunto torneo al frente de las Chivas. En el 2008 comenzó una nueva etapa en su carrera como entrenador con el Deportivo Toluca, equipo con el que ganaría 2 campeonatos. Debido a esta carrera llena de éxitos y mucho trabajo, en 2010 es nombrado Director Técnico de la Selección Mexicana de Futbol. En el 2011 se consagró como campeón de la Copa Oro y obtuvo el pase para disputar la Confederaciones en Brasil 2013. Después de su trabajo como seleccionador nacional, en octubre del 2014, regresa a la dirección técnica del Club Deportivo Guadalajara.
