Joey is a proud Foley Lion, a product of the Foley Public School System from kindergarten through high school, where he played the trumpet in the band.
Like many good southern boys, his favorite childhood pastimes were hunting and fishing.
His most vivid summer break memories are of high tide fishing adventures on the Fort Morgan Peninsula with his late Father.
On the weekends, he and his Grandfather wore out every honey hole they could find along the brackish banks of Wolf and Sandy Creeks.
Over the holidays, he relished the invitation from his Uncle to join him on hunting trips to Camden.
He recalls fondly, the many nights the men sat around the white-hot glow of an over-fed campfire, swapping tales of close calls and epic long range kills..

After graduation, Joey joined the Volunteer Fire Department in Magnolia Springs and took the first step towards a career that allowed him to help people, thereby satisfying a long-standing interest in search and rescue that was likely born from his boyhood affiliation with the Civil Air Patrol.
He would also spend a brief tenure with the City of Gulf Shores, before being hired by the Daphne Fire Department in 1999.
Christmas night of that same year, Joey fell through a weakened flight of stairs while battling an apartment fire and got trapped for what he recalls as one of the most frightening few minutes of his life.
In 2005, he was promoted to Captain and swiftly rose to the rank of Battalion Chief the following year.
Joey maintains that rank today serving as a Shift Commander, Department Emergency Manager and Training Coordinator, while supervising a total of 13 subordinates, to include 4 lieutenants..

In 2007, Joey was introduced to his future wife, Christy.
A group of his guys, who had just passed paramedic school, invited Joey out to eat with them to celebrate.
Little did he know that accepting their invitation would change his life, as he would fatefully end that evening by flirtatiously texting Christy via a friend's phone.
This chance blind date, by modern day standards, evolved into an inseparable bond, and the couple would exchange wedding vows with their toes in the Orange Beach sand in 2008.
Much like her husband, Christy felt called to serve, yet she would become very ill while attending nursing school.
Her symptoms pointed to an auto-immune disorder that left her liver severely damaged.
By the grace of God, she underwent a successful liver transplant in November of 2015.
Today, the couple greets every healthy moment spent together as a gift, thereby setting a humbling example of pure gratitude for the things in life that are granted but never guaranteed..

Being a very humble man, Joey is not fond of broadcasting his primary motivation for earning his real estate license.
Yet, the reality is that Christy's illness has made it possible for her to only participate in part-time employment and as you might imagine her medical expenses are ample, to say the least.
That said, real estate is in his blood.
