Detailed description is Jill's Wish mission is to help families minimize their financial struggle while they go through cancer allowing more time to focus on recovery.. Our foundation began as many do; with one person's desire to help another. In this case, it was very simple: Jill Conley and her husband Bart did not want to see others with breast cancer struggle and worry as they had during Jill's treatment, spending sleepless nights trying to figure out how to make ends meet and stay on top of bills. . . Many of those diagnosed with breast cancer are not only mentally and emotionally prepared for the disease and its treatment, but they are also in no way financially prepared.. . Breast cancer does not discriminate. It doesn't only strike the older population or those with established careers or people with a wealth of family and friends who can contribute to crowdfunding pages. Many of our applicants make less than $40,000 a year, with a significant number making less than $15,000 a year. They are young and old. They may not have accrued sick leave or have a savings account. They have families or are single mothers. Some are the sole bread winners. Often they lose their jobs due to side effects, treatment schedules or the inability to continue to work.. . And, the list goes on.. . The Jill's Wish Foundation grants $1,500 to families throughout the year to help cover everyday bills like housing, car payments and utilities; the bills that often get shoved to the side in order to pay for medical visits, treatments and medications vital for survival.. . Started solely with the love and determination of a couple and their friends, Jill's Wish grew from year to year and has now become a true legacy for its biggest advocate. Founder Jill Conley lost her life to stage IV breast cancer in February 2016, but her light and mission continues to shine through our ability to carry on her wish to help others.. . Those in need of financial assistance are able to apply through our website JillsWish.org.
