Detailed description is Figurative painter living in Northern California I am a figurative artist who happens to be autistic, who grew up in the deep south with an extended, complex traditional family. . . I paint in order to get in touch with and navigate my own family story, and in order to understand myself. The new figurativism emerging from today's young artists portrays human beings in their truth and in their depth, asking us to stare into the eyes of our neighbors to envision how they reflect our times and our social narrative. The figurative paintings of today show us as we are--in our homes, sleeping, eating, arguing, aging, and breaking--and with an innate empathy for where we are caught in the human experience in the early 2000's, when we are so aware of how the world is on the brink . . . My paintings are self portraits, created using map making and maze making techniques, encapsulating the themes of social isolation, awkwardness, ineffectiveness, and complexity. They are meant to both provoke and dismantle the human form, with incorporated strings, mazes, and pathways comprising the larger whole. They are additionally meant to confront stigma. They ask the viewer, "what do you see when you look at me? Who am I in your eyes?". . The answer to this question may mark our times, and my paintings are this questions product. How do we perceive one another? What do we encounter at the juncture of another person's gaze? How will we get to one another? . .
