A BRIEF PROFILE.

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Youth Centre was established on 18th January 1968 in response to a call given by late.
Smt.
Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister and veteran leader of the country, who felt the need for starting a non-partisan NGO aimed at working towards the assimilation of youth within the national mainstream, which would be non-political in nature.

Uma Shankar Dixit, freedom fighters and veteran Congress leaders became the first president and treasure respectively of this organization.
Smt.
Indira Mayaram was appointed as the first honorary General Secretary of the organization..

Today, the Centre has 40 branches all over India.
They are situated in different parts of the country including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand and Delhi..

There are 21 members are in the trustees in the trust out of which they are the office bearers and Executive Members..

There is an Executive Committee of the Trust which has its own duties to activate the trust programmes..

• Training of youth for participation in the democratic polity based on principle of social justice and equity..
• Inculcation of scientific temper in youth so that they may feel empowered to fight the age-old afflictions such as superstitions and biases that prevail in the society and in building a modern nation..
• To instill in the youth a high degree of commitment and stake in nation building and to lead them towards envisioning a progressive and peaceful world order..
• To inculcate in the youth the virtue of practicing austerity in all walks of life..
• To train youth to accept bold challenges and help develop in them a positive attitude and the desire to become achievers in whatever field they choose..
• To organize study circles, Literacy Forums, Group Discussion, Exchange Programmes, Educational Tours, Symposia, Seminars, Debates, Elocution Contests, Essay Competition, etc.
to help broaden the horizon of the youth and made them competitive and confident..
• To expose the youth to the areas of fine arts, Music, folk dance, painting and to inculcate in them a passion for cultural advancement..
• To encourage the youth to participate in fitness programmes like Yoga, Aerobics and other physical activities like sports and games..
• To start activities to develop co-curricular and extra-curricular interests in the youth..

At Delhi, in the recently constructed building of the Centre adequate infrastructure in the form of conference halls, library, and areas to run other activities has been constructed.
Presently, the several activities, including the following, are being run: computer training, tailoring, beautician course and mobile repairing.
In the future, the Centre plans to have seminar, symposium, debate competition, camps for youth from all over the country.
Subsequently, participation of foreign youth organizations in these activities would also be considered.
For the purpose of accommodating participating outstation youth, a few temporary dormitories and stay facilities have also been created.
In accordance with the Centre regulations, Building Management Committee has been constituted to look after the day to day management..

The Centre has in the past organized a very large number of programmes in different parts of the country.
For instance, Maharastra branch organized four special trains carrying youth for national integration from Mumbai to Guwahati, from Mumbai to Kolkata via Delhi, from Mumbai to Chennai and from Mumbai to U.P., Rajsthan and other places.
In this train 250 young persons traveled for two months interacting with local youth where ever they went.
The lodging and boarding arrangements were made in the train itself..

Jawaharlal Nehru National Youth Centre, Rajasthan has also organized several camps for the youth from within the State and from different parts of the country.
For instance, a national youth leadership camp was organized in Mount Abu which was inaugurated by Shri.

Two national cultural youth festivals were organized in Jaipur in which about 400 students from different universities around the counry participated..
