Instalada no Solar do Jambeiro, a Divisão de Documentação e Pesquisa atua em três áreas: a pesquisa e divulgação da história de Niterói; a documentação de eventos da Fundação de Arte e da Secretaria de Cultura e a preservação e divulgação do seu acervo fotográfico.
O acervo fotográfico foi constituído, ao longo dos anos, por compra, doação ou produção própria e conta com aproximadamente 25 mil itens fotográficos, formando coleções e fundos arquivísticos.
Hoje, parte do acervo pode ser apreciado através da Rede da Memória Virtual da Biblioteca Nacional, graças à parceria firmada entre a DDP e aquela Fundação..
