During his law enforcement career, Terry received several departmental citations for outstanding service and bravery in the line of duty.. Terry has had extensive training and firearms experience throughout his Navy and law enforcement career. He served as the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department’s Firearm Instructor from 1979 until his retirement in 2012. Terry was responsible for providing intensive and advanced training to police officers with duty handguns, shotguns, AR-15 rifles and sub-machine guns. Implemented training tactics during his tenure included combat and defensive pistol tactics, transition training from revolvers to semi-automatic duty handguns, transition training from duty handguns to AR-15 rifles, as well as formulating and developing department training standards. He is also a certified Glock Armorer.. Aside from his in depth knowledge and training of firearms, Terry is a State of Illinois Licensed Explosive Technician; responsible for identification and disposal of illegal explosive devices and munitions. He is also certified by the Medical Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators as a Registered Medicolegal Death Investigator.
