Er regierte 1530–1540 und 1555–1556.LageDas Mausoleum steht im Stadtviertel Nizamuddin-Ost, an der Kreuzung Lodi Road und Mathura Road. Zur Zeit der Sklavendynastie zählte das Gebiet zur Festung KiloKheri, der Hauptstadt von Sultan Kequbad, Sohn von Nasiruddin (1268–1287). Die Stätte umfasst außer der Hauptgrabstätte Humayuns noch andere Bauten und Grabmonumente der Mogularchitektur – darunter auch den Grabbau seines Barbiers.Ursprünglich lag das Mausoleum nahe am Fluss Yamuna, der jedoch in späterer Zeit seinen Lauf änderte.GeschichteMit dem Bau wurde 1562 auf Anweisung von Haji Begum, Humayuns Witwe und Mutter von Akbar, begonnen, die Bauzeit erstreckte sich über acht Jahre. Die Bauherrin hielt ein wachsames Auge auf die Arbeiten und schlug sogar vor Ort ihr Lager auf. Architekten des Bauwerks sollen Sayyed Muhammad ibn Mirak Ghiyathuddin und sein Vater Mirak Ghiyathuddin gewesen sein, die aus Herat in Afghanistan stammten.Später diente das Gelände als Zufluchtsort für den letzten Herrscher Indiens, Bahadur Shah II., den die Briten 1857 an diesem Ort gefangen nahmen.
