Human Welfare and Development Trust shortly known as HUWAD Trust is a Secular, Non-Governmental and Non-profit organisation registered in India as Public Charitable Trust in the year 2000.
The Trust was emerged and established as an offshoot of the self help group initiatives of women in Dharapuram Taluk, Tamilnadu states and the inspiration of RICE NGO in the area that worked in the area from 1992 to 2000.
.
The Trust presently works in two states namely Tamilnadu and Karnataka and concentrates the dry semi-arid zones in Tiruppur district in Tamilnadu and Mandya district in Karnataka states.

Our decade of services in the area has made a positive impact on children, youth and adults.
We were able to show results in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care where the children in the area were helped to obtain all round development.
This has resulted in hundred percentage enrollment of these children in primary schools.
As a continuous support child focused education was provided at primary school level through our trained teachers placed in government run schools.
This has further helped the children by increased enrollment in high schools.
Our supplementary education and tuition has reduced the school drop-outs and the rate of passing percentage among rural children in the area..
Our Vasantham Community College has helped the school drop-outs and those children who are unable to go for higher education to get diplomas in Computer application and Health assistant courses.
Almost all passed out students from the college were employed and earnings for the past three years.
The college has got approval and recognition from the Tamilnadu Open University..
Our community health programmes have mostly based on prevention and resulted in increased immunaisation (more than 95% of children below 10 years), de-worming done to more than 90% of children and there is a reduction of water-borne, vector-borne and faecal -borne diseases in the area.
Safe delivery is almost ensured and the maternal mortality and infant mortality rates have been reduced to a considerable level.
The anemic rate among adolescents and women has considerably reduced but still remain as a challenge to our efforts..
To eliminate poverty among the poor we have promoted self-help groups mostly for women and few groups for men and youth where the members used to save a little amount and based on that were provided credit to start an Income Generation Programmes by Banks in the area.
This has helped families to educate their children, meet their health needs, nutrition food, procure assets like houses, sites, household things, cattle, own shops etc.
There are few groups became self-reliant and self-managed and others are on the process to become self-reliant..
Our community play activities has promoted the concept of play among all sections of community to do physical activities including traditional sports and games without much equipment, competitions and cumbersome rules and regulations ending with joy and happiness to participants..
Our primary focuses from this year have been changed and concentrate more with children with difficult situation mostly in rural area.
Our strategy and approaches are also changed and work on rights based and ensure children are safe, happy and healthy.
We also support families and community for their self-reliant.
We work and encourage the families and community to protect and promote child rights.
We have planned to address all form of exploitation of children up to 18 years..
There are challenges remain in the area especially for children and their protection and rights.
There are school drop-outs and many were working in textile, poultry farms, brick making, tea shops, workshops etc.
They were exploited with long hours of works, lesser wage with poor sanitation and accommodation facilities and the girl children are prone to physical and mental abuses in work places.
There are voluntary and forced child marriages happening in spite of law prohibition in the area mostly among the dalit community.
There are vulnerable children infected and affected with HIV/AIDS.
Most of the children of migrant workers especially from brick works do not go to school while they grow they learn the works and remain as brick workers..
Thus, we have rededicate ourselves to address these challenges and to see that all children are safe, healthy and happy besides supporting their families to become self-reliant and the community to protect and promote child rights..
