Detailed description is This page is to create awareness for the plight of street children in Egypt, an issue of growing concern within recent years even in areas such as Hurghada. The Hope Village Society is a Non-Government Organization (NGO) that was founded in 1988 by Mr. Richard Hemsley, Headmaster of The Manour House School in Cairo. He made Egypt his home and was devoted to it’s development, Human rights and the cause of street children. He volunteered with assisting children in difficult circumstances both in Egypt and in his homeland (England).. The HVS started back in the 80’s with only one reception center in Nasr City providing shelter for 7 orphan children. Two years later, having noticed a number of children spreading out at Cairo's streets and squares, Hemsely decided to establish the first Day Care Center for receiving street children in the Shubra area. Today, HVS has expanded it’s activities all over the country with now 16 centers including reception centers, temporary and permanent shelters and mobile health care units caring for up to 50,000 street boys, girls and young mothers.. Before his passing away in 1995, Mr. Hemsley, in his final will, left all his property and belongings to The Hope Village Society’s children.. This page is to create awareness for the plight of street children in Egypt, an issue of growing concern within recent years even in areas such as Hurghada. It aims at guiding those interested and committed to the cause in how to provide support wherever necessary.. In response to public concerns, The Hope Village sent down a group of specialists (Physicians, Social Workers and Psychologists) to survey the Hurghada area and conduct a social research after which they arrived to the conclusion that Hurghada is in Need of a Reception Center to serve “Children at Risk” as well as Street Children.. .
