Detailed description is Natural farm food, from a small family farm that raises animals humanely in Fairbury, IL.
Close to Bloomington/Normal, Champaign, & Chicago.
Hoffman's Little Acres is owned and operated by Scott & Anna Hoffman, and our 4 kids, Abigail, Brianna, Kayla, & Johnathon.
We don't have much land, but we do as much as we can to raise good food for our family and others.

We raise various breeds of feeder pigs, Old Spot, Hampshire, Duroc, and Red Wattle hogs which are on the Livestock Conservancy's threatened list.
They have good foraging ability, and the meat has more fat & marbling that gives it it's great flavor.
The meat is more red than white like confinement pork.
We raise them outdoors with shelter and feed them non-GMO corn, along with a variety of "extras" including eggs, raw milk (cow or goat), fruits, vegetables, even hay, and whatever else they can find rooting around in the dirt.
We sell market size hogs for $3.50/lb.

We do not have enough pasture to raise a lot of freezer beef, but on occasion we do have that available after raising a bull calf from 1 of our milk cows.
Kayla is in charge of feeding the bottle calves until they are weaned.
Then they are fed some hay & non-GMO corn until they are big enough to butcher.

We also have a flock of 22 completely free range chickens.
We sell their brown & green eggs for $4.00 a dozen.
The green/blue eggs are from a breed of chicken called Americana or Easter Egger, the eggs are a little smaller than the brown eggs, but are fun to have with all the different colors! (insides of the eggs are the same as regular eggs :) Brianna takes care of the chickens, collecting and washing the eggs, and gets some of the proceeds from the eggs that sell..
Our dairy goats are Nubian, Nigerian Dwarf, & Golden Guernsey.
Abigail takes care of most of the goat chores because she loves those little cuties.
We will sell registered & non-registered kids in the spring for $200-400.
We use their milk just to drink or make cheese and handcrafted soap.

Our all natural soap is made with our goat's milk and oils, coconut & olive oil, and lard or palm oil.
Unscented or scented with Essential Oils $5.00 a bar.
Brianna helps me create some soap made with Fragrance oils which are not "all natural", but it's fun to experiment with different scents & colors, it will say on the label..
In the spring and summer we raise meat chickens.
When they are 1-2 weeks old they are moved to a portable coop.
It is enclosed with wire so they get sunshine, but also has a sheltered area in the back for them to get out of the rain.
There is no floor so they can scratch and peck for bugs or eat grass & take a dirt bath.
The coop is pulled to fresh grass everyday.
Johnathon checks on the little chickys a few times a day...they eat ALOT.

Scott is working on getting his bee hives started, and we made pure maple syrup in the spring and hope to have that available also in 2017.
