Detailed description is A heritage education center, we offer school field trips, animals, tours, nature trails, picnic tables and 10 historic structures on 15 acres. Beginning with Oliver Moss in 1874, the Johnson Farm has a long history in Henderson County. The original farm house was built between 1876 and 1880 but our period of significance begins in 1913 with Mrs. Sallie Johnson. Mrs. Sallie Johnson ran the farm as a summer boarding business from 1913-1958, along with her two sons Leander and Vernon. The brothers closed the boarding business when their mother died but they remained active in Henderson County for the rest of their lives. They had a vision that one day their farm would become an educational resource for the school children of Henderson County, teaching them about the farming life that is so integral to the history of this Appalachian region. Today we honor their legacy by acting as a cultural heritage center owned and operated by Henderson County Public Schools. We offer historic home and grounds tours, field trips and heritage festivals throughout the year. We are also home to the Heritage Weavers and Fiber Artists in the old boarding house.
