Detailed description is HPMI at FSU is striving to make composite materials safer, stronger, multifunctional and afordable The High-Performance Materials Institute is a Florida State University center that focuses on conducting a broad range of research and integration to improve the performance and affordability of advanced composite materials, components, subsystems and structures; expanding the pool of well-trained engineers and scientists for a technology sector of national and global significance; and working with tech transfer and economic development professionals in transferring and commercializing composite technology and increasing economic impact.
The FSU HPMI research team has developed unique experience and expertise in the areas of nanoparticle dispersion, nanotube thin film or buckypaper materials and high performance nanocomposites.
The HPMI team has also developed a state-of-the-art nanomaterial research infrastructure and labs in the new $21M, 45,000 square foot FSU Materials Research Building containing equipment valued at over $10M.
HPMI research in nanotube buckypaper and nanocomposites has won Nano/Micro 25 and Nano 50 awards in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
