Detailed description is Health Education & Physical Activity. This component teaches youth about various topics such as healthy lifestyles, teen violence, and suicide prevention. It also teaches the importance of exercising. Participants also engage in some type of physical activity each week including but not limited to swimming, sports, aerobics, etc. . . Youth Voice & Action. YVA consists of three components: leadership training, rap sessions (discussions) & service learning activities within the community. . YVA helps participants to learn the proper ways to respond to obstacles & techniques to work through life’s challenges thereby expanding their critical thinking abilities. . Project-Based Learning. In 2015-16, youth will participate in a violence and injury prevention project geared towards learning the skills necessary to reduce and/or eliminate their chances of engaging in unhealthy life decisions. Participants will pass along the knowledge to elementary students, hopefully preventing inappropriate behavior before it begins. . STEAM. STEAM is an initiative based on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Participants will engage in these subjects to become well-rounded, disciplined learners of the Arts and Sciences. Activities will be taught by GC’s finest professors and our established community members. .
