Detailed description is Hero Horses is a non-profit program designed to partner active and former military (and families) in the training of retiring Thoroughbred racehorses Welcome to the official page for the Hero Horses Program at Leighton Farm. We work with our partner charity, Thoroughbred Placement Resources, to provide current and former military members (and their families) the chance to assist retired Thoroughbred racehorses in their transition from the racetrack, into a new life and second career. And in doing so, the veterans often find out a great deal about themselves.. . These horses have a great deal in common with our veterans, and there are many parallels between life on the track and life in service to our country. Veterans enjoy a beautiful space at Leighton to participate in many program offerings, both hands-on with the horses and non-horse related activities around the farm.
