Detailed description is Our mission is to offer those in jail an opportunity to earn their way back into society. As I am sure you are aware our County and our State seems to be losing the battle with many of our young men and some as a result of crime because of drug abuse. As a Pastor of New Beginning's Church in Atwood, Indiana, I have been doing Pastoral Counseling for the past 20 years here in Kosciusko County. I know many of you have helped in this battle. As I have worked with these young men and women, I feel there are some missing links to the rehabilitation which I would like to share with you, and ask for your support through prayers and donations. . The metaphor I would like to use is found in II Timothy 2:1-7. In his letter from the Apostle Paul to Timothy he shows an example to "reliable men" (I would also include women), 3 principles: 1) A soldier who wants to please his commander. 2) An athlete who follows the rules of the game to win the prize. 3)A farmer who works hard.. Our present system of putting offenders of the law by extended incarceration is not working. Short term, 60-90 days, however, is important for them to dry out and as almost everyone of these men and women have told me, "it has saved my life." Some of these men and women have no remorse, or take any responsibility for their actions. These are not the ones we can help, however, there are some who really desire to turn their life around. These are the ones who need more help than they are getting, and I am asking for your help. I believe we can make a difference in the young people's lives. Following Paul's instructions to Timothy, I believe these people need help in several major areas. 1) They first need to be able to get out of jail, most need financial help in bonding out. 2) They need a safe place to live. 3)They need a job. 4) Transportation . 5) Availability to drug, alcohol rehab counseling. 6) Spiritual Direction7) New environment and friends. Some of these are provided by our county, but some are lacking.. Most of the people are either rejected by their family and friends or their family and friends do not have the resources to help them. What I believe needs to be done is to enter into: 1)a written agreement that they make a commitment to help themselves. 2) Learning to take the responsibility in earning their way back into society. 3) Part of this commitment would be budgeting their time, money, and learning to prioritize their life. As a soldier, be disciplined, as an athlete run toward a goal, as a farmer learn hard work. With the help of Christ Like Love this can make a difference. Therefore, I ask for your support with the gifts of the Spirit which the Lord has given you. By getting people out of jail, allowing them to prove to the court system that they can be rehabilitated by this approach under the supervision of our court system. Probation, House Arrest, and Financial Responsibility, will not only save tax payers money, but more importantly will restore lives. Thank you in advance for any help you feel led to give.
